Happy Hump Day

Happy Wednesday.  The halfway point.  After today, it's an easy slide to the weekend.  And here's a little something to help you over the hump.

These are all actual ads from days gone by.  Just a little mindboggling.  See what you think.

Mr. Rogers asks, "Can you spell sexist?"  Okay, how many of you don't remember Mr. Rogers?

Did you read number four?  Cocaine tooth drops for kids!  Whoa.

Groaner of the day:  A director is screen testing Sylvestor Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger for a new film about classic composers. Not having figured out who to give which part to, he asks Sly who he would like to be.

Stallone says, "I like Mozart. I want to be Mozart."

So the Director says, "Very well, you can be Mozart." Then he turns to Arnie and says, "Arnie, who would you like to play?"

And Arnie says, "Ah'll be Bach!"

  6. *sigh* No wonder mothers needed a Valium prescription back then!
Hm, what would the images in the last one be today? No appliances allowed! lol

  7. Where were the pearls and the apron to go with the appliances?
    I remember Mr. Rogers.

  8. Oh groan! But it's a good one.

Those ads are great. It's amazing what advertisers used to say. Although I do agree that a woman who's working hard can look very hot and sometimes even cute. And it doesn't have to be housework.

  10. Cate - Valium? They could have taken cocaine.

It would be intersting to figure what would be in that last ad today. Maybe I should do a survey.

  11. Mary - Well, we have the frilly apron in the first one, but I did wonder about the pearls. I'm pretty sure all women wore pearls and high heels to clean back then.

  14. Hmmmm...I wonder if the folks who came up with these ads are descendants of those who sang high and mighty medical praise for Laudanum (boy was that one a bad call).

    And that Groaner...Ah...loved it.

  15. The Blatz Beer ad is like something out of a SIMPSONS episode. It's interesting how times have changed. :)

  16. Angela - I saw an old ad one time for heroin. It was supposed to be good for the complexion.

  17. Liz - And then there was the ad that read: Four out of five doctors smoke Camels. They may still smoke them but endorsements have sure fallen off. *grin*
