Are You Still Out There?

HAPPY HUMP DAY

I obviously wandered away from the blogosphere this past year so I have no idea if anyone will notice this post but I want to say hi. I've been off trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I won't bore you with the details. At least, not in this post.  Let's do some random thoughts instead.

On writing - Here's something I didn't know, that I thought was interesting.  I recently had a previously published short story picked up for a re-print in another anthology.  Since the story had already been published, I wasn't expecting a lot of edits in the copy proof. Surprise! The editor of the new anthology made bunches of changes, mostly in punctuation. I went back and looked at the copy proofs from the original publication and many of the new changes reversed punctuation changes from the original edit which, in turn, were changes from how I wrote it.  I guess it all depends on which set of rules you follow. Sure seems to be a lot of them.

On family - We had a happening last week. (Yes, that's our Marine and he's holding a ring box.)

She said yes.

On Hump Day - Well, of course I have a hump day funny for you.

A guy was getting ready to tee off on the first hole when a second golfer approached and asked if he could join him. The first said that he usually played alone, but agreed to the twosome.

They were even after the first few holes. The second guy said, "We're about evenly matched, how about playing for five bucks a hole?" The first guy said that he wasn't much for betting, but agreed to the terms.

The second guy won the remaining sixteen holes with ease.

As they were walking off number eighteen, the second guy was busy counting his $80.00. He confessed that he was the pro at a neighboring course and liked to pick on suckers. The first fellow revealed that he was the Parish Priest. The pro was flustered and apologetic, offering to return the money. The Priest said, "You won fair and square and I was foolish to bet with you. You keep your winnings."

The pro said, "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"

The Priest said, "Well, you could come to Mass on Sunday and make a donation...... And, if you want to bring your mother and father along, I'll marry them."

Oh, that's so bad.

For me, that "on bended knee" picture above qualifies as an "aw", but in case it didn't do it for you...

I know those eyes got you.

Okay, that's all for now. I'm going to make the rounds and try to visit everyone this week. I hope no one moved.  If you stop by, please say hi. I've missed you.

Thought for the Day:

Your future self is watching you right now through memories.

Welcome back! Nice to see you around the blogosohere again. That's such sweet news about the engagement! And wow, never would've guessed a reprinted story would end up going through so many changes...

Yeah, there are different styles of grammar. When people are getting ready to query and freaking out, I tell them to just be consistent because if their book gets picked up they'll do whatever is their publisher's style.

Welcome back!

Re-editing is always fun. Interesting they wanted so much changed. Different tastes in editing styles.
Good thing she said yes.
And good to hear from you!

So you decided to come out into cyberspace again. Welcome back! Hope you'll stay a while--even if we have to put up with bad jokes. :o)

And best of luck to Drake and Cami!

Welcome back!!! It's great to see you back in the blogging fold again. :)

Congrats on your Marine getting the answer he wanted from his lady friend. Time moves on, eh? It's hard to believe our grandchildren are old enough to be getting hitched, isn't it? My hubby and I are about to celebrate our 50th anniversary, and if I remember right, you are, too. But WE were but mere zygotes when WE got married... right?

It's funny how much opinions can vary about "proper" editing. In a lot of ways, it's all a matter of taste.

Welcome back, LD. We have missed your Wednesday posts.

How sweet he got on one knee and everything.

Thank you all for coming by. I was afraid I'd be a voice calling into the wilderness.

Heather - I was surprised, too. To be honest, I thought, being a re-print, making changes wouldn't even be allowed. Shows how much I know.

Donna - Rather like not falling in love with your title because the publisher will probably change it.

Alex - We were pretty sure she'd say yes. She flew out to see him so he could officially propose.

Maria - Bad jokes!?! What are you saying? (And I'll pass your good wishes on to the happy couple.)

Susan F. S. - Excellent memory. Yes, we hit the big 5-0 in May. (We were married by proxy before I was born. LOL) Unfortunately, that's the only time the Marine can come home to get married so our big anniversary celebration is being postponed in favor of a wedding.

Diane - He even picked out the ring all by himself before she got there. Did a really nice job, too.

I've been so busy (staying away from the Internet), that I almost missed your return. So, welcome back!

And congrats to your grandson. Now I guess there will be wedding planning ahead?

So glad you're back - love both the 'awww' moments!!
I still haven't quite decided on that what I'll be when I grow up either! So many fun things to try!!

Stacy - Hi. Thanks. And, yup, wedding plans in full swing.

Jemi - My only problem is, with a grandson getting married, I've become actually aware of time marching by. Scary stuff.

Your trying to figure out what you want to be sounds so much like me of late. I'm at a crossroads in my life and now trying to figure out what's going to come next. I've been blogging, but somewhat half-heartedly.

So true about the future self. Now how far into the future do I go?

Nice to see you back on the blogs. Hope your destiny treats you well.

Of course I'm still out there. Where else would I be? Glad to see you back, Linda. I loved the proposal picture and tried to work out whether the backdrop was where I thought it was.

Loved, too, your thought of the day.

Mike - it was Joshua Tree National Park. Did you guess right?

LD Masterson said...

Arlee - I wish you luck figuring out your crossroads. It's never easy.

I want to kiss that kitten.

Marcy - It's those eyes, right?

It's the eyes, the fluffy fur, and that sweet pink nose. It's a perfect little kitten package :)
