It's Hump Day? Already?!?

Oh my gosh... it's Wednesday? Seriously?

I'm a little behind getting started on the new year.

It's not exactly my fault. Instead of spending a nice relaxing week at home between Christmas and New Year, on the day after Christmas my hubby and I boarded a bus for a five day trip to Disney World with our grandson's high school music groups (band, orchestra, and choir). We'd chaperoned trips like these when our sons were in high school and remembered them as fun excursions with a great bunch of kids. Well, the great bunch of kids part was still the same but we didn't account for the twenty plus years of aging we'd done since then. My arthritic knees alone did me in. By the time we recovered from our fun excursion, we'd totally missed New Year's and still had to "take down" Christmas.

Then, just as I was getting ready for things to return to normal - adults going back to work, kids back to school - the cold wave hit. Our low on Monday was -14. I think the high was -6.  I don't even want to talk about the wind chill.  Schools were closed. The AF Base where hubby works was closed.  Instead of the first "normal" week of the new year, we were still on Christmas break. The kids still are (schools are closed again today).

So, I'll admit it. The first hump day of the new year caught me completely unprepared. But let's see what I can come up with for you...

In keeping with our weather, here's a news bulletin:

The federal government has issued a travel warning to seniors due to the cold weather...

Anyone traveling in the current blizzard conditions should carry the following:

Shovel
Blankets or sleeping bag
Extra clothing, including hat and gloves
24 hours' worth of food
De-icer
Rock salt
Flashlight with spare batteries
Road flares or reflective triangles
Full spare gas can
First aid kit
Booster cables

I looked like an idiot on the bus this morning!

I forgot to ask...did you have a good New Year's Eve? As good as these guys?

Speaking of New Year's Eve...

With the Holidays celebrations here, I must share a personal experience with you, my family and friends, about drinking and driving.

As you know, at this time of year, many of us tend to celebrate from time to time with a "social session" out with friends.   Well, two weeks ago, I was out for an evening with the guys and had several beers followed by some vodka & soda. Feeling very happy, I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit.

That's when I did something that I've never done before ----- I took a cab home.

Sure enough, on the way home, there was a police check point, but since it was a cab, they waved it past.   I arrived home safely without incident.

This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I got it, and now that it's in my garage, I don't know what to do with it.

Um, I hope you didn't have that good a time.

I do have a cold weather tip for you.  Extra socks at night. Really, they make all the difference.

I've got something a little different for your "aw" today. Maybe it's a leftover from being at Disney World and seeing Mickey but I thought this little guy was worth an "aw".

What do you think?

Well, that's it. Did we do it? Are you over the hump? Sliding toward Friday? Excellent.
And so starts a great new year.

Question for Today:

Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety-one?

Cab story - brilliant - as are the socks over the toilet seat. Luckily we haven't got your chill. Just floods.

You'll do a lot of walking at Disney World!
Sorry you guys are still frozen. We're cold, but not that cold.

LOL I didn't know where the heck you were going with the cab story. I definitely didn't have as good a time as these cuties did on New Year's Eve! It was fine but this would be hard to top. :)

This week's weather has really been something, hasn't it? Ugh!

I like Onety-one. Got me with the cab joke too.

The cab one got me, too. Kind of needed the laugh.

I got back from lunch today to find the pipe to the upstairs toilet burst. What fun! Now I have no water and a mess in the basement (I'm on a waiting list with the plumber). Ugh! I hate this weather!

I love the cab story. I'm telling that one to Greg.

Re: cold
I know where you can go where it'll be 60 tomorrow. Just sayin'.

Stay warm, hon. And get some rest. Most of the US is hibernating a little while longer.

LOL! (Especially at the cab story.) And, of course, awww. Sweet picture! :)

Love the cab one!! And the mouse - totally an awwww!

We've had the cold here too. Temps of -25 to -35 for a while there. It's a bit better now - hovering around -15 to -20. At least the kids got outside for recess today! I've never heard of schools closed for cold before but so many people on twitter were talking about it - seems like it's happening in a lot of places. Stay warm!

LOL! Love the cab story.

We were at Disney World recently and I know what you mean by a lot of walking. We must've lapped all four parks three times. I was beat.

If you learn the answer to your Question for Today, please post!

We are just tripping right along into the new year, aren't we? The weather certainly doesn't help with anything. (By the way, I can relate with the knee thing a bit!) Happy New Year to you.

Have you decided what to do with the cab yet?

What a bright spot in the middle of the week! Thanks for the laughs. They were all funny.

Socks on the toilet seat is hilarious!! I loved your "Aw" pic this week. Good for you for surviving that Disney-chaperoning business - my feet ache just thinking about it. Keep warm, stay inside, and enjoy a good TV show. :)

Karen W. - Chuckles are good. Thanks.

Mike - Oh dear. Hope you dry out soon.

Alex - They need senior stops between the rides with comfy recliners to put our feet up for a bit.

Julie - Some relief from the cold coming this weekend but I'm not thrilled about the rain. Are you ready for a soggy mess.

mood - Very tiny, indeed.

Susan G/K - Do you think if we all started saying onety-one, it would catch on?

Stacy - Oh no! I hope you get your plumbing disaster under control quickly.

Maria - Ah, if only it was closer.

Linda G. - Glad you like them.

Jemi - Wow! Your cold makes ours look like a heat wave. I guess it all depends on what you're used to/prepared for.

Diane - If only I could have borrowed some energy from the kids.

Carol - And it's very nice to have you back.

Julie - Well, we may stubble a little coming out of the gate but we've got a whole year to find our stride.

M.K. - Still debating. Suggestions welcome.

Kaye - My pleasure.

Lexa - Thanks. I have been.

Heather - Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.

Michael - Brrr, indeed. Stay warm.

-14 degrees?! Yikes! I can't imagine what it must be like to experience temperatures in the negatives...

And that mouse definitely made me "aw"! Heck, those doggies did, too. They certainly partied too hard! XD

Obviously running very behind here. It's Friday and I am just now getting here.

That cab story was funny.

I'm sorry that Disney wasn't as you remembered. It is so much walking at Theme Parks. My mom loved to go when we were kids and even young adults. Now... she just can't do it. Her feet, knees, hips, lower back.. well you get the picture. You and your hubby were Troopers!

Heather - To be honest, once it gets down to single digits there's not a lot of difference between cold, bitter cold, and really freakin' cold. Except for the frostbite warnings, whihc is why they closed school.

Robin - Yup, I know just how your mom feels.
