Hump Day Blend-ins and Funnies.

Happy Hump Day

Hi. I'm squeezing in this post while I'm working on a massive project. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with writing or querying or meeting editors' deadlines. I'm trying to put together a picture slide show for my dad's memorial service this Sunday...eighty-nine years captured in less than sixty photos. The odd thing is, my biggest problem isn't having too many pictures or not enough, it's the gaps.

My mom couldn't take a decent picture to save her life, so Dad was the family photographer. For all my growing up years - Christmases and birthdays and special events - I have tons of pictures of my mom and my brother and me, but very few of Dad. He was always behind the camera. He starts showing up in photos again about the time I got married and started taking my own pictures. It's sad because it looks like he was an absentee father when he was anything but.

So here's my word to the wise. Do you have someone in your family who takes all the family pictures? If so, try to pass that camera around so you have pictures of everyone. Someday, you'll be glad you did.

Okay, that's my public service announcement for today. Now let's get on to your hump day funnies.

 Advantages to blending in #1.

Hey, I wouldn't have noticed.

Kid joke. (I love kid jokes.)

A priest was invited to attend a house party.  Naturally, he was properly dressed and wearing his priest's collar.

A little boy at the party kept staring at him the entire evening.  Finally, the priest asked the little boy what he was staring at.

The little boy pointed to the priest's neck.

The priest asked, "Do you know why I wear this?"

The boy nodded.  "Uh huh. Because it kills fleas and ticks for up to three months".

  Advantages to blending in #2.

 If ya can't beat 'em...

Now from kids to married couples (you know, bigger kids).

Tom and his wife Grace were attending a marriage seminar on communication.

"It is essential that husbands and wives know each other's likes and dislikes," the instructor said.

He turned to Tom. "Can you name your wife's favorite flower?"

Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered, 'It's Pillsbury, isn't it, dear?

I'm glad we don't have Grace's answer.

Of course, sometimes that blending in thing doesn't quite work.

 Poor guy.

Okay, time for your weekly "aw".
And if you don't have a monster size "aw" for this little one, there's something seriously wrong.

 Yeah, I knew you would.

Success? Are we over that mid-week hump and sailing toward the weekend?

Excellent.

(Did you have a favorite?)

Have an outstanding week and weekend. I'll see you here next Wednesday.

 Helpful Hint for the Day:

I'd have to say blending in #1 is my favorite (it's the one that made me chuckle, anyway).

As for taking pictures--my cousin is going through really old family photos. It would have been nice if someone had labeled who the people were in the picture (she's been asking everyone if they recognize anyone). Something to also consider!

I hope going through the photos bring you some happy memories, though. (((hug)))

I hope you find enough photos. That's a good point about passing around the camera.
That dog is being mocked!

I'm sorry about your dad. I wish you all the best with your project for his memorial. Finding photos of the family photographer is always hard, but I know you will do a great job. Wishing you and your family the best.

I'm a sucker for the aw.

That's a monumental and emotional task. Good luck finding pictures for the gaps. *hugs*

And, of course, AW-ing big-time. And giggling at the funnies. :)

My sister and I use that last saying to each other all the time. Thanks for the laughs and I take all the pictures in our family.

I know you'll do a wonderful job filling in the gaps on that slide presentation. And that slide show will mean so much to all of the people who loved your dad. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Good funnies. As always.

Love the blending in pics. Too funny.

We did a memorial slide show when my Dad died, too. My brother in law happens to have made a film or two and put together a fabulous documentation of my dad's life which of course included all his kids and grandkids and boy was it sad and sweet.

Stacy - I always labeled photo in my albums but over the years pictures have been removed from the albums for one reason or another so that didn't help. Better to write on the back.

Alex - Yeah, he is.

Murees - Thanks, for the kind words and the aw.

Linda G. - Aw's and giggles - that's what I'm here for.

Susan G/K - Make sure you get in to some of those pictures. Someday you'll want those.

Carol - Yeah, I need to establish a new normal starting next week. It's time.

mshatch - I'm not much of a film maker but I really want to include all the people and things that were important to him. It's hard.

Love this as always!

My condolences on the loss of your father. It's been almost a year since my father's funeral. My brother, who was putting together the slideshow, sent email requests around to friends and family for their pictures of him. We got back some wonderfully priceless shots, most of which were new to us, as well as wonderful reminiscences for his online obituary. It made for a special keepsake for all of us.

Barbra - Thank you. I did ask for pictures from other family but they all had the same problem. Lots of pictures but very few of him during those years. Sigh.

Oh poop. Trying to answer comments on my phone and the silly auto-correct changed your name. Sorry, barbtaub.

I'm with Carol, the priest and the sheepdog were my favourites, too. The priest and the sheepdog...Sounds like the start of a joke, or a limerick.

Good luck with the slide show. I imagine it will be a cathartic experience.

I've always been camera shy, so I'm the one with the camera and I'd be surprised if there are any pictures of me in years! :)

Love the blending in ones!! the final one cracked me up!

Hahahaha the married couple joke is so getting re-told. ;-)

Mike - Or maybe and priest and a sheepdog walked into a bar...

Jemi - I understand camera shy but someday your family will want pictures of themselves with everyone they love. Make sure they have some of you.

Misha - Yeah, that one hit close to home. *grin*

It took me a minute to get the joke in Blending In #1. I didn't notice the dog at all LOL.
Hope you found enough photos. Take care.

What a touching story about your father. He sounds wonderful. Good luck finding more pics with the photographer in them.

I loved the priest joke, and the mocked dog pic, and that kitten is ADORABLE!

You find the best stuff :) I like that fox and the hounds one the best, I think :) For some reason my little sister used to say the title of that Disney movie with a new york accent. It would come out "Fox and the Hyeownd.

Julie - Yup, he knew how to blend in. And in the end, of course, I found more pictures than I could use and spent days deciding which to cut.

Lexa - Thank you. I'm glad you liked them.

Sarah - Love that accent. I wonder how it comes out with my Boston one?
