I've never signed up to join a blogfest. Usually I've been a little intimidated by the number or frequency of posts required. But I saw a nice little one over at Lydia Kang's blog that I thought I could handle. One post and not even a new one at that. Oh yeah, that's my speed. So I decided to give it a try.
I entered my name and URL, clicked on Subscribe and, lo and behold, my name was added to the list. Then I was magically tranported to the Mister Linky site where I followed the steps to set up an account. So far so good.
Not quite sure what to do next, I went back to Lydia's blog and saw a link to Get the Code. Clicked there and found myself back at Mister Linky, who gave me the code but told me I needed to click on Subscribe to subscribe to that meme. There didn't seem to be any magic Subscribe buttons on that page so I went back to Lydia's blog and tried Subscribing again. Now my name is in the list twice. Back to Get the Code and Mr. Linky still says "you've selected a shared meme to which you are not currently subscribed."
I've left a comment on Lydia's blog apologizing for my woeful failure as a blogfester and asking for help, but since I've already revealed my ignorance I might as well ask here, too.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Groaner of the Day: Animal activist Bo Derek was horrified to learn that the Queen of England wears antique sable coats. She decided to confront the Queen over the issue, and arranged to get herself invited to an event which the Queen was also due to attend.
A month later, they were at a high class tea party. Rich people everywhere. Bo started looking around for the Queen. Sure enough, there she was, and wearing sable.
It was time for the confrontation! Bo marched up to the Queen, stated her cause, and demanded an answer.
Queen Elizabeth responded haughtily: "Some wear old fur to reign, Bo."
(Betcha had to say it out loud to get it.)

It seems to me all you need now is the graphic (widget).
What does your code look like? You can email it to me if you want. But if it's an image code, all you have to do is load it into Blogger's Design palette and add the element (which is the code).
Ref: groaner
Even out loud, I didn't get it. I feel so dumb.
Maria - Got your comment as I'm heading out the door but I'll play with it again when I get back.
Ref the groaner - - think Judy Garland.
Wish I could help, but I'm pretty clueless in that area as well.
Have a great weekend.
I think it wants you to get an account. Not sure!
I tried to grab the code as well, but it told me the same thing. Sorry, I use Linky Tools for my blogfests and those are free and easy to grab. Ask one of the hosts if they can send you the code.
I only had to say the groaner out loud five (!) times, but I finally got it. Yeah - it's a groaner all right!
Took me three tries aloud (and my husband giving me a strange look) for me to get it...and then I groaned! ☺
I have no idea how to solve your dilemma. Hope you get the help you need to succeed! Happy Friday! ☺
My poor poor hot brain, took me a while and then I groaned LOL Just imagine had I tried to jump through Mr. Linkey's hoops - things just might have progressed to nuclear :)
So sorry you are having trouble with it! Thank you so much for signing up. Honestly, that is really all you have to do. Getting the code is only important if you want the whole list of participants listed on a blog post, which isn't at all necessary. And I do believe they want you to have an account, which is why you are getting that message. If you really want the HTML code for the Linky list, I'd be happy to email it to you. Otherwise, simply link back to my or DL's blog on the day of the blogfest. So sorry for all the trouble!
Hope you got the code worked out, Linda.
Sad to say, I had to sing the groaner to get it. :)
Maria - Turns out that was my problem. Mr. Linky hadn't given me any code yet. Closed everything down and went back in later and, bingo, I had code. Lots of code, actually. A bunch of different options. I'm still playing with them but I'm back on track. Thanks.
Isis - Thanks for the good thoughts. Nice to know I'm not alone.
Diane - Well, I'd just signed up for an account but I think it might still have been processing. Thanks for the suggestion.
Alex - Mr. Linky finally offered me some code. I'm playing with the options now, mostly just to get a feel for how these things work. I may want to try another blogfest one of these days. Thanks.
Stacy - Don't tell anyone but it took me a couple tries to get it when I first read that one.
Larri - See what I told Stacy (previous comment). Thanks for the good thoughts.
Denise - Well, I think my groaner was easier than Mr. Linky, maybe not by much - but it made me laugh.
Lydia - I think I'm getting this worked out. Combination of my not having any idea what I'm doing and a little lack of cooperation from Mr. Linky. But I thank you for having a nice little blogfest to try my wings on. I'll figure this out and be braver next time.
I do feel better that Mr. Linky wiped out my duplicate entries on your participants list. At one point I was on there multiple times. Looked very foolish.
Hey Mary - Nice to see you. Now I gotta ask, what tune were you singing before you worked out the groaner.
Hope you got your code transferred.
I really sympathize. Since I'm always messing up that kind of stuff, I consider myself a certified computer klutz.
