Back From Vacation or A Soggy Blog

Happy Hump Day

I hope everyone got through last week without your hump day funnies to help you along.

Hubby and I were in Puerto Rico with my eldest and his family, enjoying the kids' spring break.  It was the perfect getaway from the end of a long cold winter.

We spent time on the ocean.

And in the ocean.

And even in a pool that overlooked the ocean.

(We're at the edge of the pool. The darker blue behind is the ocean below us.)

Alas, all great things must come to an end, and that includes vacations.
So here we are, back to the daily grind and needing a little something to get us over the midweek hump.

Hey, do you know the difference between friendship among men and friendship among women?

Friendship among Women:   A woman didn't come home one night. The next morning she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house.  The man called his wife's 10 best friends.  None of them knew anything about it.

Friendship among Men:
A man didn't come home one night. The next morning he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house.  The woman called her husband's 10 best friends.  Eight confirmed that he had slept over, and two said he was still there.

Nah, I don't think that's true. Do you?

In keeping with my earlier pool picture, I think these guys have the right idea.

How about a couple kid jokes?
 Here's one.

As I was nursing my baby, my cousin's six-year-old daughter, Krissy, came into the room. Never having seen anyone breast feed before, she was intrigued  and full of all kinds of questions about what I was doing.

After mulling over my answers, she remarked, “My mom has some of those, but I don't think she knows how to use them.”

We took a ton of pictures while we were gone (aren't you glad I'm not making you look at them all). Sometimes I think the kids started to feel like this.

Hey, it's hard to keep holding that smile.

Here's kid joke two.

Working as a pediatric nurse, I had the difficult assignment of giving immunization shots to children. One day, I entered the examining room to give four-year-old Lizzie her injection.

“No, no, no!” she screamed.

“Lizzie,” scolded by her mother, "that's not polite behavior.”

With that, the girl yelled even louder, “No, thank you! No, thank you!"

 Well...it's polite.

I wanted to try to stay with the vacation theme for all of today's pictures and I even found one for your "aw".
Naturally, on vacation, a guy wants to kick back and put his feet up.

I think he's got it.

Are we there? Over the hump? I hope so.
(My midweek is a little off because we just got back so today feels like Monday to me.)

I'm still working my way through the 583 e-mails that arrived while I was gone so forgive me if it takes me a couple days to visit everyone.

Have a great week/weekend. See you here next Wednesday.

Foto Friday - Looking Back

I love taking pictures.

I adore my grandkids.

So it's no surprise that I enjoy taking pictures of my grandkids.

I take plently of the posed variety, but I especially like the ones that capture a moment or tell a story.

This morning I feel like sharing a couple.

I believe I've posted this one before but it's half of a pair and I want to post the second one so you're getting them both.

Finding stones to throw into the pond.

Studying the ripples he made.  Such power for a little guy.

The next one I like because of how I got it.  I was in the back seat of the car taking a picture of my granddaughter (in the front seat) using the sideview mirror.  In the far right side of the mirror, you can see me holding the camera.

This is just a cool action shot.  (She hammered that kick.)

This is a post-game celebration piture.  (He got two sacks!)  What makes it special is the guy holding my grandson is my dad.  How many kids get to celebrate their games with their great-grandfathers?

I took this one on Tuesday, a couple of days ago.  First day of school.  This is the same little guy who was hunting for rocks in the first picture.  Wasn't that just a year or two ago?  When did he get so big?  Like the sign at the corner, I want to tell him (tell all of them), please stop.

Okay, that's all for now.  I hope you enjoyed these.

I'm heading downstairs because my beloved spouse has the day off and said he was up for cleaning out the garage if I was.  Can't miss opportunities like that.  (I'll be a little late visiting/commenting today.)

This weekend is the start of football season so you know where I'll be.  How about you?  Plans for this weekend?

Quotes for Today:

The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present, and future. ~Gail Lumet Buckley

A Mouse in Orlando and a Skunk at Home

I had an interesting evening last night. Sophie was very agitated and wanted to go outside.  I let her out and she went tearing around the yard trying to find something.  I stepped onto the deck and got an unmistakable whiff.  Good Lord, a skunk.

Had it just passed through and left a little something behind?  Or was my crazy dog about to get sprayed.

I quickly rounded up the crazed canine and brought her inside.  But it was near bedtime and she needed to...well, you know.  So I got her leash and we headed out the front door for a nice walk.  In the dark.  And then I listened to her whine and fuss at the back door half the night.
(I really think he was out there.)

But hey, better than a close encounter of the stinky kind.

Enough of that.  As you know, I'm just back from a family vacation at Disney World and tradition demands I bore you with a couple pictures.  Just a couple, I promise.

These are the very cool, ridiculously overpriced rain ponchos we bought after getting drenched by a sudden downpour on our second day.  Naturally, as soon as we put them on, it stopped raining.

It made us feel a little Goofy.

This was a new ride I wanted to try out.  Unfortunately there was an unreasonable weight limit.

The kids got to make candy at the candy story.

So did I.

Okay, got to have one group shot.  Here's the whole clan.

If you're looking for a picture of Mickey, we never ran into him.
But I didn't run into that skunk last night either so I'm good.

Groaner of the Day:  Two guys have been lost in the desert for weeks and they're in a bad way. As they stumble on, hoping for an oasis or something similar, they suddenly see, in the distance, a small tree.

As they get closer, they can see that the tree is draped with rasher upon rasher of bacon. There's smoked bacon, crispy bacon, life-giving juicy nearly-raw bacon, all sorts. And the smell... oh, the glorious smell!

"Look, Pepe," says the first man. "It's a bacon tree!"

"You're right!" says Pepe, "We're saved!"

Pepe doesn't wait another second. He runs up to the tree, salivating at the prospect of food. But just as he gets there, there's the sound of machine gun fire, and he is shot down in a hail of bullets.

His friend quickly drops down on the sand and calls to the dying Pepe.

"Pepe!! Pepe!! What happened?"

And with his dying breath Pepe calls back: "Ugh, run, run!! It's not a Bacon Tree after all...

...its a ham bush!"

(I know, vacation pictures and a groaner that bad in the same post.  I'm ashamed. I truly am.)

And Over the Hump We Go

Happy Hump Day!

As always, here's a collection of silly pics and other items to get you over the mid week hump and on the easy downhill slope to the weekend.  Hope you're having a great week.

Here's a short story about...a short story.  I'd love to have written this one.

I've been picking on our feline friends a lot lately so today is all canine.

Hey, dogs are funny, too.

Silly string, anyone?

This next one is in honor(?) of the hot summer most of us are sweating through this year.

Ahhhh. That's better.

This one just struck me funny.

So did this one.

And here's your weekly "aw".

Come on, you know you said it.

Okay, I can't remember where the heck I am in the blooper, trivia, quote, etc. rotation but I'm in the mood for bloopers.  Enjoy these and have a great day.

Church Bulletin Bloopers:

Barbara remains in the hospital and needs blood donors for more transfusions. She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Pastor Jack's sermons.

The Rector will preach his farewell message after which the choir will sing: "Break Forth Into Joy."

A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

[I love these next two.]

Better Late than Never?

Okay, this isn't exactly Monday morning, but it's still Monday so I'm not officially late on this post.

Actually I have three pretty good reasons for being slow posting today.

First, I'm still working my way through all the great posts and comments from last Friday's Deja Vu Blogfest.  Finding lots of new and interesting blogs as I go.  (Hi to all my new friends.)

Second, I took some time this morning to drive a couple of my grandkids to a local family homeless shelter.  The kids had sorted through their "pre-loved" toys and stuffed animals and set aside several bags to give to the children who were spending Christmas without a home.  A good reason, don't you think? (Yeah, I was proud.)

Third, I was up until 3:00 this morning doing my annual search for pictures for my Christmas letter. (Yes, I'm just now writing the letter, so you see this post is not the only thing I'm behind on).   This would seem to be an easy task.  I'm a regular shutterbug, especially with the family, so there are lots of shots to choose from.  But therein lies the problem.  Which pictures best reflect everything the family has been up to all year?  And then there's that other issue - God forbid I end up with more of one kid than another.  This is serious stuff.

Serious stuff I should have been doing several weeks ago. (Darn home improvement project.)  So I'd better get back to it.

What do you think?  Christmas letter material?
How about you?  Ready for Christmas or frantically scrambling?  No doubt which mode I'm in.

Groaner of the Day: Two men were out hunting in the woods. One of them was a fanatical huntsman. The other was his friend, a peaceful nature loving fellow who didn't really want to hurt anything.

They had been out in the woods for some time when they picked up the tracks of a deer. They soon caught up with it, and it was easy to tell why the animal had been so easy to track.  The deer had been injured and obviously could not see out of one eye.

The hunter started to take aim but his friend begged him to stop.

"It just wouldn't be fair," he said.  "Can't you see that's a bad eye deer?"

Did you come up with some good ones?

I've got some writing, some gardening, and several grandkids' lacrosse games on my agenda for the weekend.  What's on yours?

I'm currently enjoying: Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger

Groaner of the Day: A young man was in love with two women and could not decide which of them to marry. Finally he went to a marriage counselor. When asked to describe his two loves, he noted that one was a great poet and the other made delicious pancakes.

"Oh" said the counselor, "I see what the problem is. You can't decide whether to marry for batter or verse."
(all together now...grooooaaan)
